The International Tennis Association (ITA) announced Division I National Awards today. Two SEC student-athletes were honored.
South Carolina's Paul Jubb won the Arthur Ashe Jr. Leadership and Sportsmanship Award. This prestigious award, which dates back to 1982, is presented to men's and women's student-athletes who have exhibited outstanding sportsmanship and leadership, as well as scholastic, extracurricular and tennis achievements in ways that embody the legacy of tennis icon and humanitarian Arthur Ashe Jr.
Jubb was twice the Carolina Region winner of the award and becomes the first Gamecock to claim the national recognition.
Florida men's tennis captain Sam Riffice was named the Men's National Player to Watch. Just a week after being named the 2020 Southeast Region Player to Watch, Riffice claims National Player to Watch honors to make it the second straight year a Gator has tallied regional and national Player to Watch awards, as Oliver Crawford claimed ITA Regional and National Player to Watch accolades in 2019.
Riffice produced a solid sophomore campaign prior to the season's end, finishing 16-4 overall in singles and 14-3 in doubles.
