LSU (two gold medals in Rio)

It was fitting that Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles won gold medals as members of the USA's Women's Basketball team in Rio.

The former LSU teammates have been playing together and winning together for years. They were teammates at LSU from 2004-06 and also on the USA team that took gold in both the 2008 Beijing Olympics and in the 2012 London Summer Games. They even teamed up in professional basketball, playing together on the Minnesota Lynx that captured the 2015 WNBA title - with Fowles earning Finals MVP honors.

Augustus was a three-time All-American at LSU and two-time National Player of the Year, leading the Lady Tigers to Final Four appearances in 2004, 2005 and 2006. LSU retired Augustus' No. 33 jersey in 2010.

"To get one (opportunity to participate in the Olympics) is awesome but to get three and to have the opportunity to win three gold medals is like putting it up there with some of the greatest women's basketball players ever," Augustus told The Advocate.

Fowles played in the Final Four all four seasons at LSU (2005-08) and also was a three-time All-American. She was thrilled to be a part of a third gold-medal effort for Team USA at Rio.

"I feel blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of the team for my third Olympics," said Fowles, adding in an interview with The Advocate that when she first heard she had been named to the team, "my heart just sank to my stomach with joy. I am just happy to be part of this 2016 Olympic team."
