SEC Cross Country Weekly Honors - October 6, 2020

Men's Runner of the Week: Waleed Suliman, Ole Miss
Ole Miss' Waleed Suliman recorded the SEC's top 8K time of the weekend with a time of 23:36.8 at the Live at Lou Cross Country Classic. He led the Rebel men to a 41-point win over the second place team. Suliman was first among a pack of five Ole Miss scorers that all finished within the top-10 and were only 36 seconds apart. It was Suliman's second consecutive top-five individual finish.

Men's Freshman of the Week: Matt Duvall, Kentucky
Kentucky's Matt Duvall turned in the SEC's fastest freshman 8k time so far this season (23.51.0) and took home a fifth place finish at the "Live at Lou" Cross Country Classic on Saturday in Louisville, Ky. Among a field of 66 runners, he was the only freshman to finish in the top 10 of the event. Duvall turned in a steady account on the course at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park, as he assumed 11th place early in the race, gradually moving up to a final slot of fifth.

Women's Co-Runner of the Week: Sarah Chapman, Missouri
Missouri's Sarah Chapman won the individual women's 6k title at the second annual Gans Creek Classic with a time of 20:01.1. En route to her first title as a Mizzou runner, Chapman shattered her previous personal record by more than 45 seconds and the previous course record that was set last year by over a minute (21:12.4). Pacing the Mizzou women for the eighth time in her career, Chapman led the Tigers to a second-place team finish.

Women's Co-Runner of the Week: Mercy Chelangat, Alabama Alabama's Mercy Chelangat claimed the individual women's title at the Florida State Invitational at the Apalachee Regional Park Friday morning with a time of 16:50.3. Chelangat won her first cross country career individual title by five seconds to lead the Tide to a second-place finish in the team standings. Not only did she clock a new personal-best time, but also posted the second fastest 5k (cross country) time in program history.

Women's Freshman of the Week: Taylor Ewert, Arkansas
Arkansas' Taylor Ewert placed fourth in Missouri's Gans Creek Classic with a time of 20:15.1 in her debut race at the 6,000m distance as Arkansas claimed the team title with 20 points with a 2-3-4-5-6 finish. So far this season Ewert's time is the top 6k mark by a freshman, leading by 10 seconds over fellow Razorback freshman Corie Smith (20:25.1), who finished 6th in the meet. Over the past 12 seasons, Ewert's clocking ranks seventh best among SEC freshmen times and third among Arkansas freshmen in that span.
