Rosca, Robinson Nominated for 2021 McWhorter Award

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (May 6, 2021) - Cameron Robinson of the Vanderbilt football team and Christina Rosca of the Commodore women's tennis team have been nominated for the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship by Vanderbilt University.

The H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship has been presented by the Southeastern Conference since 1986 to the league's top male and female scholar-athletes.

The Southeastern Conference will name the 2021 recipients of the H. Boyd McWhorter Scholar-Athlete Post-Graduate Scholarship in mid-May.

Highlights of Vanderbilt's nominees include:

CAMERON ROBINSON, Vanderbilt, Football

Major: Medicine, Health and Society

  • NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient, 2020
  • Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Award honoree, 2020
  • SEC Academic Honor Roll, 2020
  • Four-year member of the football program
  • Key member of the scout teams as a Commodore
  • Helped make a difference to many Vanderbilt students during the fall of 2020 with his voting day initiative - helped to organize a voter registration drive at Vanderbilt Stadium
  • A co-creator of the Vanderbilt Black Student Athlete Group and acting vice president of the group
  • Be an Anchor and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative
  • Involved with a number of Vanderbilt camps, including the Fisk Summer Camp and Camp Vandy
  • National anthem singer at Vanderbilt athletic events
  • In the greater Nashville community, helped with local school holiday parties and field day events and volunteered at the East Park Community Center, Buena Vista Child Care and trick-or-treat events with Vanderbilt Greek life and other student-athletes

  • Works throughout the year with Miracle Children that are part of the Children's Hospital network, offering them the chance to be a part of the women's tennis program through active participation and interaction with members of the program.
