Four SEC players selected in MLB Draft First Round

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (July 11, 2021)-----Four Southeastern Conference baseball players were selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday. The four players taken were pitchers who were selected among the first 19 picks

Vanderbilt's Jack Leiter was the first SEC player taken with the second overall pick by the Texas Rangers. Vanderbilt's Kumar Rocker was taken 10th overall by the New York Mets, followed by Mississippi State's Will Bednar by the San Francisco Giants at pick No. 14 and Ole Miss' Gunnar Hoglund with the 19th selection by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Leiter, Rocker and Bednar are two weeks removed from leading their teams to the championship series of the College World Series.

The MLB Draft continues Monday with Rounds 2-10 slated to begin at 12 p.m. CT.
