OXFORD, Miss. - Behind a 4-for-4 night at the plate by Kemp Alderman and a strong showing from the Rebel bullpen, Ole Miss defeated Missouri 7-5 in the series opener Friday night at Swayze Field.
Alderman plated three of Ole Miss' 7 runs, coming a triple short of the cycle.
Of the Rebels' seven runs, six different players came across the plate.
Starter Dylan DeLucia took a no decision after four-plus innings on the hill. Jack Dougherty earned the win out of the plate with 1.2 scoreless, while Brandon Johnson earned his sixth save, striking out four.
Things got off to a rocky start for Ole Miss (25-19, 8-14 SEC), with Missouri (25-18, 7-15 SEC) taking a 2-0 lead behind an RBI single and a sacrifice fly.
The Rebels, however, responded in kind, dropping a three-spot of their own to take the lead. The first run came across on a fielding error at second base, with Kemp Alderman following with an RBI double to left-center. TJ McCants got a ball in the air to score the final run of the frame via a sacrifice fly.
Alderman's single in the third tacked on another run before the sophomore left the park in the fifth, answering a Missouri run to make the score 5-3. A two-run home run briefly tied the game in the sixth but Peyton Chatagnier got the lead right back for the Rebels, just managing to keep his near 400-foot shot inside the left foul pole.
An RBI single from Kevin Graham in the seventh added another run and Johnson shut the door to give game one to the home team.
Ole Miss and Missouri will resume the series on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. The game can be streamed via SEC Network +, while the radio broadcast can be heard through the Ole Miss Radio Network.
