KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - A 4-0 sweep for the No. 6 Tennessee men's tennis team over 28th-ranked Florida State Saturday afternoon at Barksdale Stadium advances the Vols to the NCAA quarterfinals for a second consecutive season.

Tennessee (25-7) also moves on to the NCAA Round of 8 for an 11th time in program history, while Florida State's (18-11) season comes to a close.

"We were talking about it in the locker room, the season kind of starts now," Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff said. "This is where you want to be. Most of the schools that are going up here have a long history of winning titles, or are runners-up, conference championships or tournament championships. It's a very special feeling and I'm glad that we get to go there.

"As we've discussed, almost everyone on our squad has been in this environment and knows what we're getting into. Having said that, we will prepare like we would for any other tournament, and we will go out there to play loose, play free, go for our shots and see what happens."

UT graduate student Adam Walton etched his name further into the record books Saturday, as his 6-1 doubles win with Pat Harper made him the sixth Vol in program history to accrue 100 singles wins and 100 doubles triumphs in a career.

The Vols clinched the doubles point behind a 6-4 victory from No. 21 Emile Hudd and Shunsuke Mitsui on court two, defeating Florida State's Loris Pourroy and Andreja Petrovic. Tennessee continued to ride the momentum created by the home crowd as singles play began and had a red-hot start to those singles matches, taking five first sets in the early going.

"I can't thank the fans enough that they would want to come out and support us," Woodruff said. "We've worked really hard. The community should be proud of our guys, and we should be honored that they would want to come out today. It was a great day for tennis, and I am really excited about the future of our program."

UT senior Martim Prata was the first to earn a singles victory Saturday, conquering Maks Silagy in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Court three saw #74 Hudd toppled Florida State's Sebastian Arcila, 6-4, 6-3 to hand the Vols a commanding 3-0 lead.

Then, in poetic fashion and his last match in Knoxville, third-ranked Walton clinched the match with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over #51 Pourroy. It marks his second clinch of the season and his 119th career singles win.
