Rebels' Orkus saves the day in close call with Knights

ORLANDO, Fla. - No. 13 Ole Miss' scored early and held on for a 2-1 victory over UCF in Orlando. Each team took 10 shots and had four shots on goal.

The Rebels put pressure on the Knights from the start. Aubrey Mister got the scoring started in the 18th minute. Mister received a pass in from of the net from Marykate McGuire who made two Knights' defenders miss inside the box. Mister scores her second goal of the season bottom left of the net and McGuire grabs her fourth assist.

Soon after, the game was stopped due to a lightning delay. Ole Miss did not lose momentum during the break.

Once play resumed, the Rebels found themselves taking a corner five minutes later. As she has done all season, Taylor Radecki floated a ball to Mo O'Connor for the score. Radecki's seventh assists matches her season total from last season. O'Connor ties McGuire with a team-leading fourth goal. Ole Miss threatened the Knights a couple more times before heading to half up 2-0.

Central Florida took less than two minutes to respond in the second half. The Knights scored to draw within one. It is the first goal given up by Ole Miss in six games.

Both teams saw many opportunities to score in the second half. In the 52nd minute, McGuire cut to the left to make the Knights' keeper miss however the defense hustled to poke the ball out of bounds. Later in the half, Lucy Green was a fingertip away from extending the Rebels' lead.

Ashley Orkus made three saves in the game with the final one being the most important. Orkus dove, batting away a header going in with less than five minutes left in the game.

Ole Miss play their next two games at home in Oxford, the first being against Western Kentucky at 6 p.m. on Thursday. The match will be available for streaming through SEC Network.
