Week 3: Cross Country Athletes of the Week
Men's Runner of the Week:
Victor Kiprop, Alabama
Alabama's Victor Kiprop won the North Alabama Showcase for the second year in a row, leading the Crimson Tide to its second-consecutive Showcase victory. Kiprop ran a 23:18.30 to finish more than seven seconds ahead of the field in the 8K. He paced Alabama to 74 points and the win.
Women's Co-Runner of the Week:
Perri Bockrath, Kentucky
Kentucky's Perri Bockrath covered the 5,000 meters in a career-best 16:24.34, scoring a five-second win over Hilda Olemomoi of Alabama at the North Alabama Showcase. A graduate student from Centerville, Ohio, Bockrath eclipsed a field of 388 competitors for her first collegiate victory.
Women's Co-Runner of the Week:
Ryann Helmers, Ole Miss
Ole Miss' Ryann Helmers won the women's 6K at the SEC Preview in her season debut with a time of 20:29.2, currently the top 6K time in the SEC for 2022. She led No. 16 Ole Miss to a perfect team score in a 15-48 victory over Florida and was one of eight Rebels in the top-10 and five within the top-five.
Men's Freshman of the Week:
Spencer Werner, Texas A&M
Texas A&M's Spencer Werner finished eighth overall with a time of 24:37.0 at the Texas A&M Invitational on the 8k course. Werner topped all but two teams' top runners in his first race as an Aggie.
Women's Freshman of the Week:
Hilda Olemomoi, Alabama
Alabama's Hilda Olemomoi ran a 16:30.02 at the North Alabama Showcase over the 5-kilometer course to take second place, just behind Kentucky senior Perri Bockrath, clinching the team win for the Crimson Tide, pacing UA to 73 points. Olemomoi finished more than three seconds ahead third place and well ahead of the rest of the field.
