MS State explodes for 16 runs in series finale vs. ASU

STARKVILLE - The Mississippi State baseball team (5-3) exploded for 16 runs on 15 hits en route to a 16-3 win over Arizona State (5-2) Sunday afternoon from Dudy Noble Field. With the win, the Dawgs won the series against the Sun Devils.

Landon Gartman drew the start in the final game in the series against the Sun Devils, picking up his first victory of the year. Gartman threw for five innings of work while striking out seven. He only allowed four hits and two earned runs facing 21 batters. The next three pitchers after Gartman only gave up four hits and one earned run in four innings of work.

Colton Ledbetter and Hunter Hines led the way with the bats. Ledbetter tallied four RBIs, two hits, and three walks, while Hines had three RBIs and three hits on the day. They both had one home run each, with Ledbetter's being a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth. Amani Larry went 2-for-4 on the day. Sunday marked Larry's fifth multi-hit game in eight games played. Lane Forsythe also had a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth.

Mississippi State is back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 28, when they head to Pearl, Miss., to face Southern Miss at Trustmark Park. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
