BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (August 30, 2023) ----- A total of 26 current and former Southeastern Conference track and field student-athletes claimed 30 medals at the World Athletics Championships recently in Budapest, Hungary. The 26 athletes represent 10 different SEC universities.
Arkansas and Texas A&M had five athletes who claimed medals, and Kentucky and LSU had four. Athletes from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi State, South Carolina and Tennessee also won medals at the World Championships.
LSU athletes combined to win six medals, including three by Sha'Carri Richardson: two gold in the 100m and 4x100 relay and bronze in the 200m. Two others medaled in multiple events: Georgia's Matthew Boling (gold in 4x400 relay and mixed 4x400 relay) and South Carolina's Quincy Hall (gold in 4x400 relay and bronze in 400m).
SEC athletes claimed a total of 15 gold medals in the World Championships to go along with seven silver medals and seven bronze medals.
