NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Vanderbilt soccer closed out its nonconference schedule Sunday with a 6-0 victory Middle Tennessee at GEODIS Park in the first-ever collegiate match played at the venue.
The team extended its unbeaten streak to eight, which is the second-longest in Vanderbilt history.
The Commodores struck first when Rachel Deresky, assisted by Hannah McLaughlin, scored 6:38 into the match. Deresky found the back of the net again in the 19th minute. Sunday's match marked her first with multiple goals scored.
Alex Wagner crossed the ball within the 18-yard box that ricocheted off Middle Tennessee's defender Kate Butcher, resulting another goal as Vanderbilt led 3-0 at the break after outshooting the Blue Raiders 6-1 in the first half.
Caroline Betts recorded her first goal of the season off a cross from Mia Castillo to start the second half. Vanderbilt extended its lead to five when Castillo scored a goal, assisted by Deresky. In the 81st minute, Courtney Jones tallied her third career goal with an assist by Tina Bruni.
The Commodores' six-goal match is tied for sixth all-time in program history for goals scored in a match.
Vanderbilt soccer will begin SEC play on Friday at 6 p.m. CT when it takes on South Carolina on the road. The match will be broadcast on SECN+.
