SEC Office announces staff promotions and additions

Birmingham, Ala.  -  Southeastern Conference Commissioner Greg Sankey announced staff promotions and additions on Tuesday.

"Our entire staff continues to provide outstanding support to the SEC member institutions and athletics departments. As the Conference Office's responsibilities have continued to expand, these staffing adjustments will help us meet the high expectations for service, support and leadership," said SEC Commissioner Sankey.

The staff changes are summarized below: • Charlie Hussey has been assigned additional duties as the Conference's Chief Operating Officer; • Chris Waldsmith has been promoted to Associate Commissioner for Finance; • Sylvia Hagan Barnes has been promoted to Director of Officiating Administration; • Cole Cunningham has been promoted to Director of Video Operations; and • Brett Thompson has been promoted to Associate Director of Marketing and Competition.

In addition to the staff promotions, Randall Malone has been added to the SEC Office staff and will serve as a Director of Video Operations while Mike Mims has joined the SEC Office staff as Assistant Director of Championship Ticket Operations.

Charlie Hussey, Chief Operating Officer

Hussey assumes the role of Chief Operating Officer after serving as Associate Commissioner for Network Relations, since July of 2013. Hussey, a 1999 graduate of Ole Miss, previously served as Assistant Commissioner for Marketing and Licensing for two years. As COO, Hussey will direct, oversee and manage the operations of the SEC Office. In addition, Hussey will continue to serve as the Conference's primary liaison for Network Relations, a position where he is responsible for matters related to the SEC Network and serves as the league's liaison with ESPN for all television and sponsorship matters. Hussey has served in various capacities with the SEC since joining the Conference office in 2000.

Chris Waldsmith, Associate Commissioner for Finance

Waldsmith is promoted to Associate Commissioner for Finance after serving as Assistant Commissioner since February of 2013. Waldsmith is responsible for all financial and accounting functions of the Conference, including the production of annual financial projections and operating budgets, preparation and presentation of financial reports and calculation of all distributions to member institutions in accordance with SEC bylaws. He oversees all financial operations of the SEC Office and serves as liaison to Chief Financial Officers at member institutions, investment advisors, banks, insurance companies and the conference's audit firm. A 1990 graduate of Alabama, Waldsmith also supervises the Conference's Championship Ticket Department.

Cole Cunningham, Director of Video Operations-Football

Cunningham is promoted to Director of Video Operations after serving the SEC Office in various capacities since August of 2010 including, most recently, as the Assistant Director of Video Services. A 2010 graduate of Auburn, Cunningham has played a central role in the implementation of video replay in officiating, most recently as the SEC adopted the experimental rule permitting collaborative video replay from a centralized location. Cunningham's role is focused on providing support for officiating video in football, but he will continue to work in enhancing the video support provided to all of the SEC's sports and officiating coordinators.

Sylvia Hagan Barnes, Director of Officiating and Administration

Hagan Barnes is promoted to Director of Officiating Administration after serving as Associate Director since 2001 and in various other capacities since joining the SEC staff in 1991. As Director of Officiating Administration, she is responsible for providing strategic planning, oversight and management of officiating administration with primary focus on the sports of men's and women's basketball, baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball. Hagan Barnes is a 1996 graduate of UAB.

Brett Thompson, Associate Director of Marketing and Competition

Thompson moves from the position of Assistant Director of Championship Ticket Operations, a role in which she has served since October of 2013. As Associate Director of Marketing and Competition, she will manage marketing and promotional strategies associated with Conference championship events, plan and implement branding and licensing activities for the SEC Office, and provide sport administration oversight for the sports of volleyball, swimming & diving and women's tennis. A 2008 graduate of Auburn, Thompson has served in various capacities in the SEC Office since joining the Conference in August of 2009.

Randall Malone, Directors of Video Operations-Basketball

Malone joins the SEC from DVSport, a company which specializes in digital video acquisition, analysis and play-back software. Through his work with DVSport, Malone has collaborated with each SEC campus to establish their officiating replay system in football and basketball. A 2001 graduate of Tennessee Tech, Malone worked in a similar capacity for XOS Digital and formerly served as Video Coordinator and Director of Basketball Operations at Auburn University. As Director of Video Operations, Malone's focus will be on providing video support for officiating in men's and women's basketball, and will also enhance the SEC's use of video technology for all Conference officiating programs.

Mike Mims, Assistant Director of Championship Ticket Operations

Mims joins the SEC from the Pepsi Center in Denver where he served as Event Ticket Operations Manager. A 2009 graduate of South Carolina, Mims previously worked for one year for the Orlando City Soccer Club as Ticket Operations Manager and for four years in the South Carolina Athletics Department as a ticket office and parking assistant.
