SEC has 26 selected in MLB Draft

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 11, 2020)-----Twenty-six Southeastern Conference baseball players were selected during the 2020 Major League Baseball Draft, including 17 during the final four rounds on Thursday.

The 26 picks represent 12 different SEC programs. Vanderbilt led the way with four selections, followed by Mississippi State, Tennessee and Texas A&M with three each.

Nine SEC players, including four of the first six picks, were selected on the first day of the draft on Wednesday.

Arkansas' Heston Kjerstad was the first SEC player taken with the second overall pick by the Baltimore Orioles. Other first round picks were Texas A&M's Asa Lacy, who was taken two picks later by the Kansas City Royals, followed by Vanderbilt's Austin Martin by the Toronto Blue Jays and Georgia's Emerson Hancock with the sixth pick by the Seattle Mariners. Garrett Crochet of Tennessee was selected 11th by the Chicago White Sox, and Justin Foscue of Mississippi State was taken 14th by the Texas Rangers.

Three players were taken in the Competitive Balance Round A between the first and second rounds: Mississippi State's Jordan Westburg (Baltimore), South Carolina's Carmen Mlodzinski (Pittsburgh) and Auburn's Tanner Burns (Cleveland).
