Week 4: Men's Tennis Athletes of the Week

Player of the Week: For the 2022 season, Vanderbilt's Joubert Klopper is 7-0 in both doubles and singles play. To start off last Sunday's doubleheader, Klopper clinched the match in a two-set thriller, 7-6 (2), 6-4, over Virginia Tech's Alvaro Ariza on Court 2. The Commodores won a close battle with ACC foe Virginia Tech, 4-3. In the afternoon, Klopper and partner Marcus Ferreira clinched a quick doubles point for the Dores after a 6-2 victory at the No. 2 spot. Moving up to the top singles spot, Klopper defeated Hayden Shoemake in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0. Klopper also went undefeated on the day in singles play, 2-0.

Freshman of the Week: Enzo Aguiard led the Crimson Tide during the week, capturing two singles wins against ranked opponents. Aguiard defeated #53 ranked Alex Martinez from Oklahoma in two sets, dropping just two games in the first set before battling through a tiebreaker in set two to take the match 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). He followed with a two-set win over #86 Ezequiel Santalla from Tulsa 7-5, 6-4. He also posted a win in doubles play, going 6-1 against Callum Gale and Adham Gaber of Tulsa. He was trailing 4-5 against Baptiste Anselm and Mark Mandlik when the doubles point was clinched against #19 Oklahoma. Aguiard is on a three-match winning streak in singles and is 2-1 against nationally ranked opponents, including his two wins this past weekend. He holds a 6-2 overall singles record in dual matches. In double, he is 5-2 in dual-match play with partner Joao Ferreira and is on a two-match winning streak.
