Seven SEC teams earned bids to the 2023 NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament and an additional four have accepted bids to the 2023 WNIT. This is the fourth time 11 league women's basketball teams have made the postseason.

The SEC was the first league to have seven teams invited to the NCAA Tournament and has earned this honor a leading 14 times (1986, 1991, 1995, 1996, 1997, 2003, 2004, 2009, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023). The SEC leads all conferences in all-time NCAA Tournament bids with 263.

The conference has had four or more teams in the WNIT seven times (2005, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2021 and 2023). Overall, league teams have accepted 70 bids from the WNIT.

In the NCAA Tournament, South Carolina is a No. 1 seed for the seventh time after earning the position in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Tennessee continues its appearance streak, participating in all 41 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championships since its inception in 1982, the only team to do so.
