Aggies, Tide tie for the lead at SEC Men's Championship
ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The Texas A&M Aggies and the Alabama Crimson Tide ended Thursday's second round tied for the top spot on the leaderboard at 12-under par 548, in the SEC Men's Golf Championship.
Alabama and Texas A&M hold a two-stroke lead over No. 9 Florida (-10). Both squads head into the Friday's final stroke play round. Each team is 13 strokes clear of the cutoff to advance to the single-elimination eight-team match play bracket which starts Saturday.
"The guys hung in there really well. We didn't get off to the best start. The golf course was hard today. The greens were faster and we played almost the entire day in the wind with our pairing. It was a good test all day and the guys hung in there. They worked their way into a pretty good round for the conditions we played in," said head coach of the Aggies, Brian Kortan.
Following up his 6-under outing during round one, Surratt posted a 2-under 68 on Thursday, improving to 8-under through 36 holes and obtaining sole possession of the individual lead. Surratt holds a one-stroke lead over Alabama's Canon Claycomb entering Friday.
After Friday's final round of stroke play, the top eight teams in the field will continue onto to the match play portion of the tournament, which begins on Saturday. The third round of the SEC Championship will begin Friday at 8 a.m. CT. Live scoring is available at SECSports.com and golfstat.com.
