Six from SEC TF/XC earn academic accolades
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (June 28, 2023)-----Six Southeastern Conference student-athletes have been named to the 2022-23 Academic All-America® Division I Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, according to an announcement Wednesday by the College Sports Communicators (CSC). The Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the competition realm and in the classroom.
Florida's Talitha Diggs was named the Division I Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award winner. The other five SEC representatives on the Academic All-America® Team were Florida's Claire Bryant, Alabama's Mercy Chelangat and Arkansas' Amanda Fassold on the First Team, Tennessee's Uchechi Nwogwugwu on the Second Team, and Tennessee's Nicole Sreenan on the Third Team.
Diggs was a four-time NCAA All-American in 2023 and was named Academic All-America® for the first time in her career. A political science and international studies major with a 3.67 GPA, Diggs earned All-America honors in the 400m and 4x400m relay at the NCAA Indoor Championships and 200m and 400m honors at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. She also claimed the SEC Indoor Championship in the 400m.
A total of 47 SEC student-athletes were named to the 2022-23 Academic All-District® Women's Track & Field / Cross Country Teams earlier this year.
